Usher And Shakira To Take Over On 'The Voice'
NBC confirms that Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green are taking a year off.Posted By: MTV.com
We're only into the second week of "The Voice" season three, and there is already news of a major shakeup on the horizon for next year.
After Us Weekly reported that Usher and Shakira were in early talks to replace Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera next season, NBC confirmed the news in a press release.
"We are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to 'The Voice,' " NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in the release, which explained that Cee Lo and Christina will only take season four off before returning to the show. "The addition of these popular iconic artists continues the tradition established by Christina, Cee Lo, Adam and Blake. Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and Cee Lo. The participants on our show benefit from our coaches' expertise and their continued success in the music business allows for significant new contributions to the contestants when they return."
It's hard to believe the powers that be at "The Voice" would be considering any changes on their panel, given the fact that the show's fall season has been a hit in the ratings and held its own against Simon Cowell's "X Factor" last week. Before the press release, replacement judge Usher raised suspicions via a few cryptic tweets he sent out Monday afternoon (September 17).
"With all the talented voices out there in the world. Other raising stars could benefit from my mentoring. #Teamusher...who's with me?" Usher tweeted, followed by an even more cryptic message: "IV on 4....#Teamusher See you soon! URIV," which could be a thinly veiled announcement that we'll definitely be seeing the Grammy winner on the panel for season four.
So why the departures of Aguilera and Green? A source on the show told the magazine that Aguilera wants to use the break from filming to focus on promoting her new album, Lotus, which hits stores in November. As for the "Forget You" singer, he is reportedly working with NBC on a new show of his own along with the long-awaited, long-delayed Goodie Mob album.
