Lapush

Even though they hail from Middle America (St. Louis, Missouri to be exact), indie rock trio Lapush sound like they originate from the U.K. Bred on artists like U2, Oasis, the Verve and the Smiths, Lapush--comprised of singer/guitarist Thom Donovan, drummer Brett Voelker and bassist Kevin Bachmann--combine electronic sounds, acoustic instrumentation, sinuous synthesizers and flowing pianos to create interweaving layers and lulling soundscapes. In the late '90s, Donovan and Voelker met while doing session work. What had begun as a studio project between two friends became a full album project. When the duo decided to bring their sound to the stage, they recruited Bachmann, Donovan's former co-worker at a local music store. Through constant local shows and word of mouth, the band's demo made its way to prominent radio programmers at St. Louis stations The Point and The River, as well as seminal rock stations like Indie 103.1 L.A. and XM Satellite Radio, where the band was featured while still unsigned. With such momentum, the band decided to record a full album in Donovan's home studio. In June 2005, Lapush released their debut album Someplace Closer to Here.
